Hidden Trap of Thinking: Thinkism
In school, I learned how to write cheques.
I learned who the payee is and who the drawer is.
I learned different ways of endorsing a check.
Yet every time I received a cheque or wrote one, I had to call my friend at the bank because I didn’t know what to do!
I didn’t learn about cheques until I actually started using them.
Thinkism
This concept was introduced by the legendary Kevin Kelly.
Whenever you’re faced with a problem, you think hard to find a solution. You assume you can think your way to a solution, and usually, this isn’t enough.
But the moment you decide to bite the bullet and start doing the very thing that you didn’t know, the solution begins to appear.
These days, I’m trying to share content more consistently on this newsletter and social media.
All this time, I failed because I didn’t have a system.
You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems. - James Clear
I realized I need a system for sharing content as in everything I do.
First, I joined an online course. Then I discovered a bunch of tools like Notion, Hypefurry, and Typeshare. I started using them and got frustrated when I couldn’t use them as expected.
I wanted to think my way to the ultimate system before starting. I wanted to have every little detail figured out as I set sail.
When that didn’t happen, I got overwhelmed.
Here’s what I did next
Rather than waiting for the perfect system, I started doing anyway.
I dabbled with the tools and figured out one feature at a time.
I allocated time to work on my newsletter.
I posted a few times on Twitter and LinkedIn.
Then something magical started happening.
Between all that frustration and overwhelm, a system started appearing.
Sometimes when we are stuck and overwhelmed, the best thing to do is the very thing.
